Online Help
We are looking for people to help collect and update information and to make weekly update posts here on the Yahoo group and daily posts on Facebook to help keep the community updated on what's going on in the greater Metro Detroit area.
In-Person Help – The Phoenix Cafe in Hazel Park
We are in need of the following volunteers to help with our monthly gatherings at the Phoenix Cafe on the last Sunday of each month between 3 and 6pm. Each event is followed by a drum circle (not ours, but we like it). You may volunteer for one event or all of them or anything in between!
We are accepting the following:
Ritual Leaders – You lead in your own style and according to your own tradition. Our goal is to let people experience a variety of traditions and to be representative of many throughout the year. You can lead a ritual based on a theme we pick or a theme you pick. We do require that there be a specific theme because we will plan the rest of our gathering (crafts, stories, workshops) around that theme. We do a theme based on each of the major Sabbats and additional themes throughout the year.
Workshop Presenters – Let us know what you'd like to present or volunteer for one of our existing themes. We are actively looking for presenters for the topics of candle magic, crystal magic and interconnectedness at this time.
Activity Leaders (for children or adults) – Share your craft, lead a guided meditation, organize a swap meet, tell an interactive story, share a game or other fun activity with the kids.
Hosts/Hostesses – Set up, clean up, greet guests, copy activity sheets, organize information tables, raffles, etc. and just do your best to make sure our guests have everything they need to be comfortable and entertained while enjoying a group spiritual and educational experience.
Donation Pick up and Drop Off – We will be doing several activities throughout the year that will result in donations and other items that may need to be delivered to the post office, to a shelter or to another location.
Answers to questions you may be asking-
How Big a commitment are you looking For?
Not that big, if you volunteer to do one thing at one event we will be happy.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
It depends on what you want to do. Kids 13 and up can do general host/hostess work and16 and up can do kids activities with minimal supervision, provided both have parental permission. Drop off/pick up folks need a valid drivers license. We would like our ritual leaders, workshop presenters and adult activity leaders to be 18 and up.
Can I plug my business/organization at these events?
Anyone who is participating is welcome to bring fliers to leave on our information table, if you're presenting you are welcome to pass out business cards and mention your business or organization as long is it is not the main focus of your presentation. For example, someone who owned a crystal shop may wish to do a workshop on crystal magic and pass out business cards at the end, inviting participants to stop in and buy crystals or come to an ongoing class on the subject. If you wanted, you could even bring a few “starter kits” or bags of 5-10 crystals to sell after the workshop.
Can we charge for any of these workshops?
If people are making things as part of the workshop that they will be taking home you can charge up to $10 per person for materials, otherwise we are asking that you help us out for free. These events are all offered free to the community.
